Just push play

I told Ginet a while ago that I wanted to put a playlist on our blog, because I like listening to music, and I think I have great musical taste, thanks in no small part to parents with wide-ranging tastes and the fact that 50% of my siblings are rather musically talented. I wasn't sure about the legalities of these playlists (I'm still not, but I promise not to report anyone). Right around that time a friend of our whose (not who's, which is a contraction of "who is" - had to look that one up) opinion and tastes we hold in high regard blogged about her distaste for playlists on blogs.

This got me thinking that perhaps our dear readers might find my playlist not so great. I've certainly been to more than my share of blogs with cruddy playlists that are rarely updated. Then tonight I dropped in on my cousin Meagan's blog. It was if I had pushed play on my iPod. Reading her posts is always a treat, but listening to such great music while reading was spectacular, brilliant, smashing.

That said, put your playlists up world. (Sorry, Jen.) I'll just push pause if I don't care for it, but I at least want to hear whachya like. As for us if I put a playlist up I'm gonna do it up right, and it'll take some maintaining, and be far reaching (be afraid because you could hear Kanye, MoTab, and some Peter, Bjorn and John in the same list). I just might plan it forever and never get around to posting it...

On a funny note - our home teacher came by the other night. He's older (graduated from UC Berkley in the 50s I think). For a navigational aid I mentioned that my green truck would be parked outside. Upon his arrival I asked him if he found our place easily, hoping my landmark had helped, because he asked me 3 or 4 times previously which house was ours. He said something to the effect of, "No, I parked in front of another house with a green truck. It's a lot nicer than yours." (He meant the truck, though he could have meant the house too.) I don't know what age you have to be to be able to say what you want, but I can't wait to get there.

Crystal and I have had the debate of whether or not to put a playlist on our blog, and we've always ended up deciding not to. For me I guess I think that I usually read blogs through my reader, so I don't usually hear the music. Not to mention that I usually check blogs at work (during my lunch break of course) so I don't have my speakers turned on. When I do in fact go to blogs I have heard some pretty bad playlists. All that being said, I know your taste in music Zach. In fact you've turned me on to SXSW, live concert on NPR etc. So by all means throw that playlist up, I've got my earphones ready. If in fact you do get incarcerated for doing so I'll have to first talk to D. Ramsey about using our emergency fund for bail.

Um, I take offense to the 50% comment! I think this figure should be adjusted to "75% of my siblings are musically talented" (sorry Abe). Mom may have had to pay me to practice the piano but I like to think I got something out of it!

Put a play list up, I'd love to hear what you listen too. I think its fun to hear what kind of music people like. I don't always agree and I stop the music but it's still fun to know. I let each family member pick a song, I figure it's a family blog so everyone should have a say right?

As far as saying what ever you want. I think we should all say what we want, and then maybe there wouldn't be so many misunderstandings. I think that's why I catch people off guard. People aren't used to you saying whatever you feel. Jay's family is very different; they keep everything to themselves so no one knows anything. I guess there is a good and bad side to both.

Hi Zach,

I'd love to hear your playlist.

I haven't seen you in 15 years. Don't really remember what you have told me about the music you listen to, but that might have changed since I served cake and hot chocolate in my cafe in Myyrmäki, Finland.
I'm planning my vacation to USA this July, so if you want to have a visitor from Finland you better e-mail me.

So, I have been meaning to comment about your upcoming (maybe) playlist. If it helps very little-my friend who is a JAG has a playlist on his blog. That may or may not mean anything, but just thought I'd pass that along. And don't worry-if your playlist sucks-there is a mute button on my computer!
